There have been very few consistencies throughout the life-altering and downright otherworldly experience that has been living through a global pandemic. I, like many people, am the type of person that functions best when I have some kind of routine, familiarity and stability in my day. And in these unparalleled times, as COVID-19 turbulently rips through the world, it can be very challenging to find a sense of routine amongst the chaos and worry.
I’ve tried to structure my days as near to the routine I had been living post-UK lockdown as possible to help find a sense of my true self. Another thing helping me feel like me, albeit very minor and frivolous, has been applying my daily wash of pink lipstick.
If you’re a long time reader of my blog, you’ll be no stranger to the fact that I love bright and bold lipstick and since my hair has been darker in colour, a punchy pink has been my weapon of choice to help combat feeling quite so deflated and run down. A little slick of fizzy fuchsia lipstick has given me the pep I needed for multiple, daily video conferences. A splash of pink on my lips, with a quick swipe of mascara, has been enough to help me feel ready for the day, whatever it holds.
Even if you feel bold lipstick isn’t your thing, you must do whatever feels right for you, but it might also be fun to experiment – Afterall who is going to see?
4 Hot Pink Lipsticks To Try
Pink lipstick is in my opinion, a little less formal than a red. Pink lipstick can make an impact without the added ‘glamour’ that red offers. It’s also perfect for brightening your face and most fuchsia shades suit most skin tones. Here are some of my favourites shades and formulations.
Kat Von D – Everlasting Liquid Lipstick in ‘Bauhau5’
A matte, liquid lipstick that doesn’t dry your lips out? Yes! One of the most comfortable matte formulations around. Instead of looking cakey, it sits smoothly on your lips without budging or bleeding around the lipline.
This purple-toned pink is a long time favourite lipstick of mine and I talked about it way back in 2016! Perfect for when you want your lip colour to last between eating, drinking, chatting, kissing whatever else. The Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick is vegan and cruelty-free also.
MAC Cream Sheen Lipstick in ‘Girl About Town’
My OG lipstick. This lipstick brings so many good memories flooding back for me. I first bought a bullet of MAC ‘Girl About Town’ cream sheen lipstick back in 2012, a year of great personal change for me. A time where I was filled with ambition and excitement for the future that lay ahead – studying journalism at university and interning at various different media outlets and PR agencies. The formulation of this blue-toned pink is extremely comfortable to wear on the lips and the pigment is buildable and striking but I have to be honest, I did buy it for the name! Carrie Bradshaw vibes all round.
Revlon ‘Cherries In The Snow’ lipstick
Probably my current favourite pink lipstick, Revlon’s iconic ‘Cherries in the snow’ lipstick makes me feel fabulous! Bad day at work? Cherries in the snow! Special occasion? Cherries in the snow! This super creamy, true pink formulation is a joy to wear!
Just to note, it does bleed a little as it’s very, very creamy in its consistency. For a vintage pink packaged up in a beautiful classic bullet, I definitely recommend Cherries in the snow.
Glossier Generation G Lipstick in ‘Crush’
Another cruelty-free pink lip option, this is Glossier’s Generation G lipstick in the raspberry pink shade ‘Crush’. This is the older formulation and packaging which has since been updated following a whole host of problems with the bullet.
This is a sheer matte lipstick and as you can see from the swatch, it is much more subtle than some of the other lipsticks shown and really takes a bit of time to work up the colour on the lips. Lasting power isn’t amazing, but this could be because I’m using the older formulation. Super lightweight to wear and easy to slick on without a mirror, this is pink with minimal risk.
I know that a swoosh of coloured lipstick isn’t enough to pull anyone from the depths of anxiety with all that is going on at the moment, however, it is something that helps me to feel like my old self. Whatever it is that helps you to feel more like YOU – do that. I hope everyone is staying safe. We can do this…Just stay inside PLEASE!
